When Cheryl Durst became CEO and executive vice president of the International Interior Design Association in 1999, she was greeted by a financial crisis. Durst took the reins after IIDA was coming out of a merger with three prominent interior design organizations: the Institute of Business Designers, the International Society of Interior Designers and the Council of Federal Interior Designers.
